The OnSubmit Event (XHTML Reference)

Introduction

The OnSubmit event is called whenever the user presses the submit button in a Form. A form is usually used to send some data to the server for further processing. The following example demonstrates the usage of an OnSubmit event. Whenever the user presses the submit button the form is processed and the value of the drop down list is shown in a message box.

Example

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN"

     "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">

<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

<head>

<script type="text/javascript">

<!--

function DisplayValue(){

            alert(document.forms[0].list.value);

}

//-->

</script>

<title>OnSubmit Demonstration</title>

</head>

<body>

<form action="onsubmit.html" onSubmit="DisplayValue();">

<select name="list">

<option value="XML">XML</option>

<option value="XPath">XPath</option>

<option value="XSL">XSL</option><br/>

<input type="submit" value="Send data">

</form>

</body>

</html>
